### Forensic Cemetery Could Begin Operations Before the End of the Year: SIDURT
The construction of a new forensic cemetery in Tijuana, situated in the Valle Redondo neighborhood, may begin operations within the next two to three months. This information comes from Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo, the head of the Department of Infrastructure, Urban Development, and Territorial Reorganization (SIDURT).
Arturo Espinoza Jaramillo mentioned that an upcoming meeting with the Chief Clerk of the Judicial Branch is slated to determine the final needs to start the cemetery’s operations. Some of the requirements still pending are general lighting, securing the perimeter, improving access, and constructing sidewalks and additional infrastructure, which are estimated to cost an additional 5 million pesos.
To date, 14 million pesos have already been invested in this project. Espinoza Jaramillo explained that the initial completion date for the first phase was set for May this year, but it has been postponed multiple times. The first phase is expected to include 1,200 niches, sidewalks around these niches, street lighting, a perimeter fence, better access, and a small parking lot.
The land for the cemetery was donated by the municipal government of Tijuana. Next to the forensic cemetery, a municipal cemetery No. 14 has already been operational since February 2024. This forensic cemetery aims to securely store unidentified bodies in specialized niches and vaults.
