**Tijuana to Implement New Trash Collection Routes Including Undelivered Housing Developments**
In a move to enhance sanitation efforts in Tijuana, the city plans to introduce new trash collection routes that will extend services to housing developments not yet handed over to municipal authorities. Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz has indicated that the city is working on the legal logistics necessary to identify designated drop-off points for trash, allowing city waste collection vehicles to service these areas.
Virginia Vargas, Head of the Secretariat for Urban and Environmental Development, mentioned ongoing discussions with the Urban Administration and Municipal Public Services to address this issue. The National Chamber of Housing Industry (Canadevi) in Tijuana estimates that approximately 400 developments are pending official handover, which has impeded municipal services like waste collection.
Mayor Burgueño highlighted that residents should avoid leaving trash out overnight, as it violates municipal regulations. The city is committed to finding a solution within the legal framework, ensuring that the responsibility for waste management is upheld. Vargas noted the universal nature of the issue, stating, “Trash is ultimately a pollution problem that affects us all, whether a development is officially handed over or not.”
The city is set to launch a new trash collection route this coming Monday in the El Laurel development, benefiting 3,330 families who have been waiting since 2014 for this service. Plans for additional routes are being incorporated into the city’s budget for the upcoming year.
**Secondary Article: Efforts to Enhance Waste Management Across Tijuana**
Beyond the new initiatives for extending trash collection routes, Tijuana faces broader challenges with waste management. Some local merchants propose installing bins in alleyways around the popular “Revu” area to tackle litter on the streets. Meanwhile, private trash collectors have protested the suspension of their permits, indicating a need for clear regulations and cooperation with the municipality.
In addition, Tijuana is also handling the challenge of undeveloped housing areas not yet delivered to the municipality, estimated at over 600, which complicates the provision of comprehensive city services including waste management.
While these efforts are ongoing, the city administration is also focusing on other community needs, such as setting up lactation rooms in workplaces to support working mothers, as well as addressing security concerns with new safety measures.
On a lighter note, the weekend weather forecast predicts a slight drop in temperatures, with expected light rainfall. Residents are advised to prepare for cooler weather conditions with necessary attire.
