Tijuana Expands Fire Safety Plans

“Upcoming administration in Tijuana to prioritize infrastructure for all fire stations, not just Station 1. Mayor-elect Burgueño Ruíz vows better support for firefighters and enhanced city safety measures.”

### Upcoming Administration to Focus on More than Just Fire Station 1 in Tijuana

The next administration in Tijuana will not solely focus on finding a new space for Fire Station 1, but will also analyze which other parts of the city need fire stations. This is according to Ismael Burgueño Ruíz, the elected mayor of Tijuana.

“Tijuana naturally grows every day, and there will always be a need to address issues related to firefighters and infrastructure. Once I take office, I will conduct a rigorous assessment of how many fire stations are necessary,” said the mayor-elect.

### Current State of Firefighters

At present, 212 out of Tijuana’s 415 firefighters work as temporary employees without the benefits given to regular staff, as reported by Rafael Carrillo Venegas, the head of the Municipal Fire Department.

Burgueño Ruíz made his statements following the recent eviction of Fire Station 1 located on Emiliano Zapata Street, and the failure to establish it in the planned site at Parque del Policía’s Area Number 3.

“I refrain from commenting on the current situation. I will take responsibility from October 1st and ensure that these services are provided,” he added.

### Addressing Firefighters’ Demands

The prospective mayor was also questioned about the 212 firefighters demanding salary equalization and permanent employment status. These firefighters are currently working under protest. “These are issues the existing administration needs to continue addressing, but once I take office, we will handle them. During my campaign, I spoke with firefighters; some don’t even have medical services. We need to ensure they are well-equipped and properly attended to,” Burgueño Ruíz stressed.

### Broader Fire Safety Needs and Relocation Plans

The focus will not just be on Fire Station 1. The new government intends to analyze the city’s needs in terms of fire safety thoroughly. Given Tijuana’s continual growth, this comprehensive assessment is deemed crucial.

Following the relocation issues faced by Fire Station 1, the administration will seek to identify suitable locations for new fire stations to meet the expanding city’s requirements more effectively.
