Tijuana Drivers Face Long Waits

Tijuana platform drivers face hours-long registration queues, hindering work and impacting income. Uber drivers still restricted from airport pickups; new background check policies introduced.

### Platform Drivers Spend Over Six Hours to Register

Platform drivers in Tijuana experience lengthy registration waits, sometimes exceeding six hours, to comply with Baja California’s requirements for Transport Network Companies (TNCs). Martín Sirio, an Uber driver, recounted his ordeal: starting from seven in the morning and waiting until one in the afternoon just to enter the registration module, a process he started two days prior.

Drivers face three main queues during registration: document review, payment processing, and data digitalization. Sirio described the procedure as cumbersome and time-consuming for drivers. “Even for minor issues, we get turned back, and if there’s another issue the next day, we have to return again. They requested a lease contract for my vehicle, but since it’s owned by my wife, I had to draw up a new contract,” he said.

The lengthy registration process has forced some drivers to stop operating until they meet all state requirements. This situation adds significant delays to their ability to work, impacting both their income and the availability of ride-sharing services in Tijuana.
