### Restaurateurs Anticipate Sales Boost Following Dollar Increase
The dining industry in Tijuana is looking forward to an economic recovery this summer, spurred by the recent rise in the dollar’s value, says Giovanny Angulo Robles, Vice President of the Youth Commission of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac). Angulo Robles mentioned that the long queues at various border crossings, along with fluctuations in the dollar over the past few years, have negatively affected the gastronomic sector, leading to a decrease in the number of foreigners crossing into the city.
“We are currently facing a challenging time both nationally and in the United States, which is a significant global reference point. The economic challenges there significantly impact us here, and the dollar has been heavily hit in recent years,” expressed Angulo Robles.
He further explained that increased competition among entrepreneurs has also been a challenge due to the rising number of businesses introducing new concepts. “With more innovative concepts emerging and people investing more, while also having greater knowledge of restaurants, the financial situation isn’t as favorable as in previous years. We need to seek competitive advantages to stand out in the market,” he said.
Angulo Robles noted that as the dollar’s value decreases, it affects various business sectors in the border city since customers from Southern California may stop crossing regularly. “When the dollar’s value drops from 21 pesos to 16 pesos, foreigners might decide it’s not worth coming to Tijuana, especially considering the three-hour border wait times. They might prefer to save 30% and stay home,” he observed.
He added that he hopes the dollar remains within a specific range, as a higher value could impact restaurateurs’ costs for purchasing supplies. “We hope it doesn’t rise above 20 pesos. If it goes slightly over 21 pesos, things could get complicated with higher supply costs,” he pointed out.
### Secondary Article: Variations in Dollar Value Benefit Tijuana’s Tourism Sector
While the gastronomic sector faces challenges due to dollar fluctuations, Tijuana’s tourism sector sees a silver lining. The higher dollar value makes the city a more attractive destination for tourists, who can get more value for their money when visiting.
