Tijuana Council Preps for Change

**Opposition Councilors in Early Tijuana City Council Meeting** Tijuana’s seven opposition councilors gathered to address citizen concerns, agreeing to work collaboratively for community betterment and problem resolution.

### Opposition Councilors of the Upcoming Tijuana City Council Gather

The seven opposition council members who will constitute the next XXV City Council of Tijuana held a meeting this week for an initial gathering, announced Ranier Falcón Martinez, an elected councilor from the Solidarity Encounter Party (PES). According to Falcón Martinez, the purpose of the meeting was not to form a unified opposition bloc but to find common ground on important issues affecting Tijuana residents and identify solutions to existing problems.

They have yet to meet with the elected mayor, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, but they hope to do so in the coming weeks. The seven councilors entering the next City Council are from the PES, National Action Party (PAN), Labor Party (PT), and Citizen Movement (MC).

“We agreed to be fully committed to helping the citizens. We will review all pending issues,” stated Rainer Falcón Martinez. He further mentioned that the councilors aim to protect the interests of the community and act in service to the public.

Among the pending issues are the salary increase for police officers and the assignment of land for Fire Station 1 by the outgoing administration. While they are currently aware of these matters through the media, they plan to examine them in detail once they take office.

“If it’s within our capabilities, as it should be, we will try to resolve these issues and support President Ismael Burgueño,” Falcón Martinez added. One of the greatest challenges he identified is addressing the long-standing issue of insecurity, for which new crime prevention programs will be promoted. Additionally, complaints about lack of road maintenance and public lighting, which were prominent during the electoral campaign, will also be prioritized.

#### Tijuana’s Public Services and Infrastructure Plans Under New Administration

In related news, the new mayor-elect of Tijuana, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, has shared some details about his administration’s immediate priorities. Burgueño announced that none of the current administration’s officials would continue in their roles, signaling a fresh start for the city’s leadership.

Focusing on security, Burgueño plans to enhance crime prevention strategies and police training programs. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with community leaders to ensure effective implementation of public safety measures.

Meanwhile, the city is gearing up for a significant reconstruction project along the seafront, set to commence on September 21. This reconstruction is part of a broader initiative to improve public spaces and ensure they meet safety standards and aesthetic quality. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in a beach cleanup event that will coincide with the reconstruction efforts.

Further underscoring his commitment to improving city infrastructure, the mayor-elect made public his intention to address the widespread civic complaints concerning potholes and inadequate street lighting, which were major issues raised during his campaign.

As Tijuana prepares for this new era in local governance, it remains to be seen how effectively these measures will be implemented and how the collaboration between different political parties within the City Council will unfold.
