### Police Officers Detained on Abduction Charges Assigned to Internal Duties
In a recent development, six municipal police officers in Tijuana from the intelligence unit were apprehended on charges of unlawful deprivation of liberty, dating back to incidents in July 2024. On October 24, the State Attorney General’s Office executed arrests of all six officers. However, due to possessing legal protection, the officers were released promptly after their formal presentation.
The officers involved, identified as Eduardo Herrera Alatorre, Isidro Ocampo García, Eduardo González Polanco, Raúl Delgado Alfaro, Daniel Lata Aro, José Merino Acosta, and Enrique Manuel Álvarez García, were taken into custody while performing their regular duties. The State Attorney General’s Office coordinated with the Secretary of Security for their arrest, which took place without resistance or incident.
The Secretary of Security, Juan Manuel Sánchez Rosales, acknowledged the officers were released based on legal protection against arrest. Consequently, these officers have been reassigned to internal duties and removed from roles involving direct community engagement pending the outcome of ongoing ministerial proceedings.
The case stems from reports that the officers detained a local timber businessman and his son in July, demanding a ransom of 400,000 pesos for their release. Surveillance footage captured the alleged abduction in the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood. The victims claim the officers tortured them and burglarized their home, leading the family to collect funds to meet the officers’ demands. Following this, the victims were freed but warned against speaking out.
