### Massive Cleanup Begins in Tijuana Cemeteries Ahead of Day of the Dead

In preparation for the Day of the Dead celebrations, Tijuana has commenced a comprehensive cleanup operation across its 14 municipal cemeteries. As José Gutiérrez, Director of Municipal Public Services, explained, they are preparing for an estimated 140,000 visitors on the 1st and 2nd of November. “It is important to note that not all cemeteries will see equal visitor numbers. For example, cemeteries 12 and 13 in Valle Redondo are expecting higher foot traffic,” said Gutiérrez.

The initiative follows reports that the previous city administration left the cemeteries in disrepair, prompting intensified maintenance efforts. Over the last three weeks, approximately 65 tons of waste have been collected. Current conditions reveal a lack of basic infrastructure, including boundary walls, fences, and visitor restrooms.

With the anticipated influx of visitors, Gutiérrez has urged patience, warning of potential wait times of up to two hours to access certain cemeteries. “We ask for your cooperation in maintaining calm and patience as wait times could range from one to two hours or more,” he advised.
