**Attempted Kidnapping During Car Sale in Tijuana**
On the evening of August 7, 2024, a man intending to sell his car outside a Walmart in Tijuana was lured into a dangerous situation by supposed buyers who actually aimed to kidnap him. The incident occurred at around 7:30 PM when the victim and his wife met with an individual interested in the car they had listed on an online marketplace. The alleged buyers arrived in a white taxi with yellow checkered patterns, labeled as “Taxi Metropolitano.”
Two individuals—a man with green eyes, short hair, wearing a white shirt bearing the name Miguel Ángel and a logo reading “Taxi Económico,” and a woman—exited the taxi and began inspecting the vehicle. They then took a test drive within the supermarket parking lot. After the test drive, they expressed their interest in buying the car and asked the seller to accompany them to a nearby gas station to complete the transaction. The seller’s wife refused to go, so the man accompanied the pair alone.
Once at the gas station, the supposed buyers revealed their true intentions. They forcibly took the man into their taxi, driving towards the Cuartel Militar in the Gutiérrez Ovalle neighborhood. The victim managed to escape and sought help, at which point his captors fired shots at him, injuring him before fleeing the scene.
Municipal officers later located the taxi in the Prohogar neighborhood and arrested José Ángel Alejandro Guevara López, who was found in possession of a firearm. It is noteworthy that the initial response to the gunfire came from security personnel of Tijuana’s mayor, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez. They were nearby at the military headquarters due to the mayor’s third government report and initially thought the attack was directed at them.
