#### Tijuana Car Sale Turns into Kidnapping Attempt

On the night of August 7, a Tijuana man who was attempting to sell his vehicle outside the Pacific Walmart faced a terrifying ordeal when the supposed buyers tried to kidnap him. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM.

The victim, accompanied by his wife, had arranged to meet a potential buyer for their car listed on Marketplace. The purported buyers arrived in a white taxi with yellow checkered markings bearing the name “Taxi Metropolitano.” A man and a woman with light skin, green eyes, and short hair got out of the taxi. The man was wearing a white shirt with the name “Miguel Ángel” and a “Taxi Económico” emblem.

After inspecting the vehicle, the couple took it for a short drive around the Walmart parking lot. They informed the seller that they intended to make the purchase but suggested completing the transaction at a nearby gas station to hand over the money. The victim’s wife was skeptical and decided to stay behind, so the man drove to the gas station with the couple.

Upon arriving at the gas station, the couple’s true intentions became apparent. They threatened the seller, forcing him into their taxi and driving him towards the Gutiérrez Ovalle Military Barracks. The victim managed to escape the vehicle and call for help. However, the attackers shot him as he fled, injuring him before speeding away.

Local police soon located the taxi in the Anexa Prohogar neighborhood and arrested José Ángel Alejandro Guevara López, who was found with a firearm in his possession.

Initial confusion arose as the incident occurred shortly after a visit by Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez to the Military Barracks. Her security team initially feared the attack was directed at her, owing to previous threats she had faced.

#### Tijuana Police Foil Drug Trafficking Ring

In a separate operation, Tijuana police dismantled a significant drug trafficking ring linked to one of Mexico’s most notorious cartels. The raid led to the arrest of four men involved in organized crime, seizing over 1,000 firearms and various drugs. This significant bust is part of a larger strategy to combat the pervasive drug-related violence in the city.

Authorities believe that the dismantled ring was critical in the distribution channels for the cartel, contributing to the high crime rates in Tijuana. The police are now working to trace the connections and gather more intelligence to prevent further criminal activities in the region.

The city’s law enforcement has been ramping up efforts to secure public spaces and ensure citizen safety, especially in heavily trafficked commercial areas like the one where the recent kidnapping attempt took place. As investigations continue, Tijuana’s police department urges the public to report any suspicious activities.

These recent actions underline the ongoing challenges faced by Tijuana in addressing crime and ensuring the safety of its residents.
