### Café Collapses in Tijuana Boardwalk Due to Poor Condition
The “Aquamarino” café, located on the Tijuana boardwalk, collapsed two weeks ago because of the deteriorating state of its structure, according to Miguel Ángel Ceballos, the director of the Municipal Civil Protection (PCM).
“Based on our inspections, we’ve found structures equally fragile, compromised over the years,” Ceballos explained. He mentioned that the café’s concrete was in poor condition and the reinforcing steel bars were corroded, leading to the collapse.
Civil Protection is now paying close attention to other buildings in the area in collaboration with the Urban Administration Directorate. They are actively visiting all tenants on the boardwalk to ensure they comply with the internal PCM program. This includes understanding how to act during emergencies and maintaining the best conditions for both the facilities and staff to confront such situations.
Furthermore, Ceballos emphasized that this incident has prompted a thorough review and additional scrutiny of other establishments in the region to prevent future occurrences.
+ Update: Structural Inspections Underway on Tijuana’s Boardwalk Post-Aquamarino Collapse
Following the collapse of the “Aquamarino” café, new reports suggest that several other businesses on Tijuana’s boardwalk are undergoing structural inspections. Safety officials aim to prevent similar incidents by identifying weak structures early and taking corrective measures.
In a recent interview, local authorities highlighted that the frequent exposure to coastal conditions accelerates structural degradation. This wave of inspections seeks to catch vulnerabilities before they lead to catastrophic failures.
“We’re committed to ensuring the safety of our public spaces,” said a spokesperson from the Urban Administration Directorate. This multi-agency effort includes routine checks and collaboration with building owners to enforce maintenance regulations.
