Tijuana Bus Cards Launch

Residents of Tijuana can grab new transportation cards for Agua Caliente Corridor buses at local stores, aiming to enhance accessibility and efficiency in public transportation.

### New Transportation Cards for Agua Caliente Corridor Now Available at Local Stores

Starting next week, Tijuana residents will have the convenience of purchasing electronic payment cards for the city’s Agua Caliente Corridor buses in over two dozen local convenience stores. The director of the Institute of Sustainable Mobility (IMOS), José Alberto Gutiérrez, announced that these cards would be available in 29 OXXO locations along Route 13, which connects the Zona Centro with the Parque Esperanto in the La Presa delegation.

These preloaded cards come with ten rides for the general public. However, senior citizens and individuals with disabilities will benefit from receiving cards preloaded with 20 rides. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Tijuana City Council and the Secretariat of Welfare, will extend to distributing cards through official channels. This new step is intended to streamline and modernize the bus payment process, aiming to encourage more commuters to use public transportation effectively.

### Expansion Plans and Mobility Concerns in Tijuana

Efforts are ongoing to expand the Tijuana Integrated Transportation System (SITT) to accommodate the city’s growing needs. The goal is to extend the service to the eastern zones, providing greater accessibility for residents. While these cards are a significant step forward, there has been a noted lack of preloaded card usage on the current routes, signifying potential areas for improvement in encouraging adoption.

In addition, there remains a critical need to address mobility issues across the city, particularly in regions like the Ciudad Industrial of Tijuana. As the city sees increasing traffic and logistical challenges, officials emphasize the importance of tackling these issues head-on. Also, a recent separate incident saw a police vehicle collide with two cargo trucks, which, although resulted only in material damage, highlights ongoing concerns about transportation safety.

With various stakeholders engaged in these discussions, Tijuana is working diligently towards a more efficient and user-friendly public transport system while also handling the broader implications of urban mobility challenges.
