Starting next week, prepaid cards for Tijuana’s Agua Caliente bus route will be available for purchase at Oxxo convenience stores. This initiative aims to streamline the payment process for commuters using the buses that service Route 13. The route begins in Zona Centro, passes through the Agua Caliente and Gustavo Díaz Ordaz boulevards, and ends at La Presa’s Parque Esperanto.

The director of the Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS), José Alberto Gutiérrez, announced that the cards will initially include ten pre-loaded trips for the general public. Special cards with twenty pre-loaded trips will be available for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Furthermore, through a collaboration with the Tijuana City Council and the Secretariat of Welfare, these cards will also be distributed at their respective offices starting the following week.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation services in Tijuana, which includes plans to extend the SITT (Integrated Transportation System of Tijuana) to reach the eastern parts of the city.

As Tijuana continues to grow, the city’s transportation system is set to expand further. Local officials are exploring ways to extend the current bus routes to better serve residents living in the eastern areas of Tijuana. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to address the rising demand for improved public transit options and to alleviate traffic congestion in key areas.

The Sustainable Mobility Institute (IMOS) is leading these efforts, aiming to ensure that all parts of the city have access to efficient and reliable transportation services. The potential extension of the SITT network is a significant component of this plan, with officials working on assessing routes and securing necessary funding.

These developments are expected to not only benefit daily commuters but also improve overall accessibility for tourists and business travelers, further boosting Tijuana’s economic growth and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
