### Beach Cleanup in Tijuana Limited Due to Boardwalk Reconstruction

The beach cleanup in Tijuana will be restricted due to ongoing reconstruction work on the boardwalk. The cleanup is scheduled for September 21, starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers who wish to contribute are welcome to join. However, access to certain areas of the beach will be limited because of heavy machinery being used for the boardwalk rehabilitation.

Nereyda Ayala, coordinator of the community project “Salvemos la Playa,” mentioned that Playas de Tijuana authorities have informed that access will be restricted from Parque México to El Faro, covering approximately a kilometer and a half. Consequently, the cleanup will now be held south from Cañada Azteca.

Concerns have been raised regarding the lack of public consultation on the boardwalk renovation project. Questions about its environmental impact, total cost, and duration remain unanswered. Ayala emphasized the need for safety precautions, urging volunteers to bring gloves, masks, and to keep their shoes on due to high levels of bacterial contamination caused by untreated sewage spills.
