### Rising Drug Trade Conflicts in Tijuana’s Centro Zone Bars: SSPCM
Increased activity from criminal groups in Tijuana’s Centro Zone has sparked violent confrontations related to drug trade activities. This conflict, particularly in the bars along Calle Sexta, has drawn the attention of law enforcement and city authorities. Fernando Sánchez González, the head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPCM), confirmed that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is actively investigating these violent incidents linked to drug dealing.
“We’re observing several conflicts among criminal groups intent on dominating the retail drug market in this area and within these bars,” Sánchez González stated.
In response to the escalating violence, municipal police have already detained several individuals connected to these criminal activities, and they have been handed over to the FGE. To enhance security, the local government has employed drones, increased video surveillance, and ensured continuous police presence in the area.
Moreover, Sánchez González mentioned that he has been in talks with the leaders of Centro Zone’s commercial communities, including a meeting with the head of Tijuana’s National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), Julián Palombo Saucedo, and a recent coordination meeting with the State Attorney General, María Elena Andrade Ramírez.
“We’re working in a coordinated fashion; our role is preventive while the State Attorney’s Office focuses on investigation, particularly within the domain of drug retail investigations,” he added.
Bar owners in the area have been reminded to adhere to the new Alcohol Regulations, including installing surveillance cameras and ensuring security staff is properly trained. These measures aim to create a seamless integration of surveillance footage with the city’s C5 command center. Additionally, bars must provide surveillance footage to FGE if any violent incident occurs within their premises.
