The Tijuana Municipal Sports Institute (IMDET) celebrated the grand finale of the 2024 Delegational Athletic Series this Saturday, marking the completion of its seventh and final stage. The event saw an impressive turnout, gathering 5,500 runners in the Centro district.

Starting from the Municipal Palace, the participants embarked on a mostly flat 5-kilometer route that traversed various streets in the Río zone. Mario “Jumi” Martínez emerged victorious, crossing the finish line first with a time of 15 minutes and 41 seconds. Martínez’s performance in this race secured his triumph in five out of the seven stages held by IMDET this year across different city delegations.

Gerardo Ibarra followed Martínez with a time of 16:10, and Miguel Higuera came in third clocking 16:26, rounding off the top three male finishers. On the women’s side, Keysi Ibarra led the pack with a time of 18:21, securing her win in three stages out of seven. Tania Muñoz (19:43) and Karina Ramírez (20:37) were the second and third fastest female runners, respectively.

The first 2,000 runners to finish the race and return their maroon-colored bib numbers received a collectible medallion, where they can display the six medals earned from the previous stages of the 2024 Delegational Athletic Series. The event was sponsored by the Fuerte Bottling Company.
