### Tijuana’s Artisan Expo “Tijuana Multicultural” Celebrates Indigenous Craftsmanship

Tijuana—The 25th City Council of Tijuana hosted the “Tijuana Multicultural” artisan expo, aimed at boosting the economy of indigenous artists and honoring their cultural roots. Led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, this event took place at the Municipal Palace. Organized by the Department of Welfare through the Directorate of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, it featured a vibrant array of hand-crafted goods and traditional cuisine.

During the inauguration, Mayor Burgueño Ruiz emphasized the importance of such initiatives in supporting the economy of native artisans and preserving Tijuana’s cultural heritage. He expressed his gratitude for the legislative push by State Congresswoman Dunnia Monserrat Murillo to designate 2024 as the Year of the Yuman Peoples, Indigenous Peoples, and Afro-American Persons. He also previewed plans for establishing a multicultural library as part of ongoing cultural projects.

Teresita de Jesús Balderas Beltrán, the City Comptroller, lauded the city’s commitment to supporting indigenous communities and entrepreneurs, underscoring the cultural significance embedded in each handcrafted item. Beatriz Campos, General Director of Welfare, highlighted the crucial role of promoting indigenous rights and cultural expressions.

Ofelia Hernández Juárez, Director of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, pointed out that the expo provides an essential platform to enhance the economic development of indigenous communities, showcasing authentic crafts and culinary traditions.
