### Tijuana Celebrates Its Top Athletes at the 2024 Sports Awards

In a grand ceremony held at the central courtyard of Tijuana’s Municipal Palace, 145 high-performing athletes were celebrated for their outstanding achievements throughout the year. This event, known as the 2024 Municipal Sports Awards, saw gold medals being awarded by the mayor, along with the director of the Municipal Sports Institute (IMDET).

These accolades were given to athletes who represented Tijuana brilliantly on various platforms, including Olympic events, World Cups, Pan American, and Central American Games, as well as at national and municipal competitions. Their dedication and prowess have brought glory to the city.

Among the celebrated athletes were Karina Martínez Sandoval, a champion in Boccia, Carlos Manuel Flores González, an expert in archery, and Daniela Paola Souza Naranjo, an Olympic taekwondo competitor. Souza Naranjo, who competed in Paris 2024, expressed immense pride in representing her city and country, and encouraged young athletes to pursue their dreams with determination.

IMDET, led by Carlos King Ristori, hosted the event showcasing not just the physical growth of the athletes but also their personal and professional development. The event highlighted Tijuana’s commitment to support its athletes, with a plan to increase the budget for 2025 to 66 million pesos, reaffirming the city’s priority to foster sports.

Prominent attendees at the event included municipal officials and the president of the Mexican Paralympic Committee. Their presence underscored the importance of sports as a key focus area for the city.

### Secondary Story: Tijuana Forms New Municipal Sports Council

On the same day of the awards ceremony, Tijuana took another step towards strengthening its sports culture by establishing a new Municipal Sports Council. This initiative aims to further drive the city’s dedication to developing athletic talents and ensuring that sports become accessible to everyone.

The council will focus on creating policies that encourage sports participation at all levels, ensuring young talents have the infrastructure and support needed to reach national and international platforms. This initiative aligns with Tijuana’s broader vision to become a hub for sporting excellence in the region.

As Tijuana continues to celebrate and invest in its athletes, the city is making significant strides in fostering a vibrant and inclusive sports environment, promising a bright future for its aspiring sports stars.
