**Tecate Continues Proposal for $65 Monthly Trash Collection Fee**

The proposal to implement a 65-peso monthly fee for trash collection in Tecate remains active, despite facing scrutiny from legislators and the State Audit Office. The Mayor of Tecate, Román Cota Muñoz, clarified that the city is still considering this charge as part of its municipal income plan for 2025. In a recent briefing, Cota stated, “We are not currently considering the removal of this fee.”

The proposed charge aims to ensure trash collection services for 31,000 households, potentially generating around 24 million pesos in annual revenue for the municipality. To address concerns and observations, the proposal is being reviewed in collaboration with the State Audit Office. “We hope to send our response to the Audit Office today. Once approved, we will proceed with the approval of the addendum by the city council,” Cota indicated.

Following city council endorsement, the document will be forwarded to the state Congress to be included in the 2025 Income Law project, awaiting a full vote. Cota acknowledged that the initial presentation of the Income Law had “substantial errors,” both in form and substance.

Additionally, Cota confirmed his commitment to closing the garbage transfer center in the Guajardo neighborhood within the first 100 days of his administration, which began on October 1st.
