The vehicle was parked outside the mayor’s residence on Eighth Street in the Juárez neighborhood of the so-called “magic town” of Tecate.
Mayor Benítez himself confirmed the attack through his social media accounts. Initially, he referred to the incident as a politically motivated attack. However, he later updated his post, reassuring the public that he was unhurt and expressing gratitude for the support he received.
The fire caused by the Molotov cocktails also resulted in damage to a part of the mayor’s home. Authorities from all levels of government and firefighters responded promptly, setting up a substantial security operation at the scene.
