**CBP Agents Seize Over 1,500 Pounds of Narcotics at Tecate Port of Entry**

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have made significant drug busts at Tecate port of entry, confiscating more than 1,500 pounds of narcotics in three separate smuggling attempts.

The first incident occurred on February 11, when CBP agents stopped a 72-year-old man driving a red off-road vehicle as he attempted to enter the U.S. Initial inspections prompted a more detailed examination with non-intrusive inspection technology, revealing irregularities. A K-9 unit alerted agents to the presence of narcotics, leading to the discovery of 100 hidden packages. Further analysis confirmed these contained 302 pounds of methamphetamine.

On February 13, just two days later, a 30-year-old individual was intercepted attempting to cross with a black semi-trailer. Inside, agents found 65 concealed packages of methamphetamine and cocaine in the trailer’s platform. Tests confirmed 37 packages weighed 697 pounds and contained methamphetamine, while the remaining 28 packages weighed 73 pounds and contained cocaine.

The most recent attempt was on February 17, when a white tractor-trailer was flagged for a non-intrusive inspection. A K-9 unit again indicated narcotics were present, leading to the discovery of 38 packages hidden in the trailer floor, weighing 437 pounds, all testing positive for methamphetamine.

Rosa E. Hernández, director of the Otay Mesa and Tecate ports of entry, emphasized the commitment of CBP personnel to safeguard communities and disrupt the operations of transnational criminal organizations by leveraging the skills and tools at their disposal. All suspects from the incidents were arrested and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for further inquiry. The narcotics and vehicles involved have been seized by CBP agents.

**Secondary Article: Increase in Smuggling Attempts at U.S. Borders**

According to recent reports, U.S. border crossings have seen a significant surge in smuggling attempts, raising concerns about border security and the methods used by smugglers. The increased efforts to transport narcotics across the border highlight the ongoing challenge faced by law enforcement agencies.

Adding to the complexity, smugglers are adopting more sophisticated methods to evade detection, including using drones and ultra-light aircraft to transport contraband. Law enforcement agencies are enhancing their strategies and employing advanced technologies to counter these tactics. Despite these efforts, the continuous rise in drug smuggling incidents underscores the need for innovative solutions and increased collaboration among federal and international agencies to combat this persistent threat.

The increased deployment of K-9 units and non-intrusive inspection technologies have been instrumental in aiding CBP’s efforts. Moreover, increased patrols and intelligence sharing between nations aim to strengthen border security and clamp down on smuggling rings. As investigations and operations continue to evolve, maintaining the integrity of the nation’s borders remains a top priority for U.S. authorities.
