A teacher from the Colegio de Bachilleres “Estación Coahuila” in Mexicali has been detained by authorities after allegedly kidnapping and attempting to sexually abuse one of her students.

Official reports state that on September 8, 2024, around 1:00 AM, the teacher, identified as Bertha Alicia “N,” arrived at the victim’s home in the Coahuila ejido in the Valley of Mexicali. She was driving an orange 2016 Chevrolet Trax. Bertha Alicia reportedly threatened and coerced the 16-year-old student to leave her home and enter the vehicle.

The victim, terrified of the teacher, complied and got into the passenger seat. Bertha Alicia then took the victim’s mobile phone, rendering her unable to communicate. She subsequently drove the girl without her consent to a hotel located in the Zona Río area of Tijuana. Once inside the hotel room, the teacher allegedly tried to sexually abuse the teenager, who resisted.

The student was held captive for 14 hours, until 3:15 PM on the same day, when investigators located both individuals and rescued the young student following the filed complaint.

Bertha Alicia was arrested, and on September 11, she had her initial court hearing where she was formally charged with kidnapping, sexual abuse, and harassment. The accused opted to extend the legal proceedings by requesting the 144-hour term to resolve her legal situation, with the next court hearing for linkage to the process scheduled for September 16. Meanwhile, the teacher remains in preventive detention.
