**Filmmakers Rescued from BC Desert**
A group of filmmakers experienced a harrowing ordeal in the Baja California desert when their vehicle became stuck in the sand during a location scouting trip. The team, working on the upcoming film “Campeón Gabacho” directed by Jonás Cuarón, found themselves stranded without access to communication or the ability to return to the main road.
The incident occurred in the desolate area of La Salada, where the five filmmakers were performing a location scouting effort. After being stranded for three hours under the sweltering 40-degree Celsius heat, Óscar Inzunza Gutiérrez and Erick López Olivera decided to venture out on foot to find help. At around 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 22, they were discovered by a local search brigade for missing persons. Despite being disoriented and suffering from heat exposure, they informed rescuers that their three colleagues—Óscar Abel Valenzuela Olivas, Jesús Guadalupe López Aguirre, and Manuel Roberto Campillo Morales—had set off in another direction to seek assistance, prompting a search operation to locate them.
These filmmakers hail from Tijuana, Mexico City, and Mexicali and were given rehydration treatment upon rescue. Representatives of the film production arrived to collect them, and the event was reported to the Baja California Cinematography Commission, led by Javier Espinoza.
The film “Campeón Gabacho” is produced by Jonás Cuarón Elizondo, the son of the acclaimed filmmaker known for “Gravity” (2013) and “Roma” (2018).
