Sinner Leniency Despite Positives

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner tested positive for anabolic steroid Clostebol during the Indian Wells tournament. Despite lenient punishment by ITIA, his wins and earnings were nullified.

**Sinner Tests Positive but Receives Lenient Punishment**

On Tuesday, August 20, it was reported that Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner tested positive twice during the Indian Wells tournament. Despite this, the world number one player will escape a harsh penalty.

An independent tribunal reviewing the case determined that Sinner was neither at fault nor negligent. As a result, the International Tennis Integrity Agency will only punish him by nullifying the result, forfeiting the prize money, and the points he earned in the Masters 1000 tournament.

The detected substance was Clostebol, an anabolic steroid classified under corticosteroids. This compound is often found in creams used for wound healing, burns, dryness, or radiodermatitis but is also capable of enhancing performance, which is why it is listed as a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Investigations revealed that Sinner’s physiotherapist applied the aerosol between March 5 and March 13, during which he received daily massages and therapies. The first positive test occurred on March 10, and the second after the tournament semifinals on March 18.
