### Claudia Sheinbaum Appoints Bertha Gomez as Deputy Secretary of Expenditures at SHCP

Bertha Maria Elena Gomez Castro, currently serving as the head of the Secretariat of Administration and Finance for the Government of Mexico City, has been appointed by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as the new Deputy Secretary of Expenditures in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP). This appointment, announced on August 29, 2024, will see Gomez Castro replace Juan Pablo de Botton Falcón during Sheinbaum’s upcoming administration.

Gomez Castro took charge of the Secretariat of Administration and Finance for Mexico City on June 6, 2024, following the resignation of Luz Elena González Escobar. She holds a degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and has furthered her studies in Municipal High Administration at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), along with a diploma in Public Administration from UNAM.

Prior to her current role, Gomez Castro held various key positions. She was the head of administration at the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health within the Federal Ministry of Health. Moreover, she served in the Undersecretariat of the Penitentiary System of the Government of Mexico City and was actively involved in the administration of Tlalpan. Among other roles, she acted as the General Director of Technical Financial Management for Decentralized Agencies within the Coordination of Transportation of the former Federal District Government (GDF). Additionally, she has experience as Deputy Manager of Planning at the state-owned enterprise LICONSA, and as Financial Administrative Advisor at the Metropolitan Area Transport Council. She also directed the School of Economics at the Autonomous University of Guerrero (UAGro).

Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed the appointment to the press after a meeting at the National Palace with Rogelio Ramirez de la O, Antonio Martinez Dagnino, and Juan Pablo de Botton Falcón, heads of the SHCP, the Tax Administration Service (SAT), and the Undersecretariat of Expenditures, respectively. “The next head of the Undersecretariat of Expenditures is Bertha Gomez, currently the Secretary of Finance for the Government of Mexico City. There is a shuffle as you can see with Juan Pablo de Botton, who moves from Undersecretary of Expenditures to Secretary of Finance for the city under Clara Marina Brugada Molina,” Sheinbaum stated.
