In a significant move to combat illegal arms trafficking, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) has commenced the destruction of 1,347 firearms that were confiscated by various police forces. The cache includes 386 long guns, 959 short firearms, 1,333 magazines, and over 23,000 cartridges.

Leopoldo Tizoc Aguilar Durán, head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSCBC), stated that an additional 3,000 firearms are still awaiting destruction in SEDENA’s depository. Most of the illegal weapons entering the country come from the Middle East, Europe, and predominantly from the United States.

“During security meetings with Customs, we are informed about the seizures of firearms intended for illegal entry,” Aguilar Durán noted.
