On August 26, 2024, a significant search operation unfolded at the Prime Wheel facility in Cañón del Padre, Tijuana, as over a hundred demonstrators gathered seeking answers regarding the disappearance of Servando Salazar Cano, who went missing on August 23. Meanwhile, family members, in collaboration with the State General Prosecutor’s Office (FGE), initiated their search within the company’s premises.

According to the FGE’s report, Salazar Cano was last seen during work hours at Prime Wheel, located on Calle Exportadores in the Chilpancingo Industrial Park in Tijuana, wearing his company uniform. Although his entry time was recorded, his exit time was not. His vehicle was found inside the facility, while his phone was discovered at Plaza Santa Anita, behind the company.

“We realized my cousin was missing at the end of the shift, as he hadn’t come home. The last message he sent was at 1:25 p.m.; since then, we have had no contact,” explained Ángel Salazar, the cousin of the missing worker.

Since Saturday, August 24, family members have conducted their own search within the facility, as an official report had not yet been filed with the authorities. However, due to limited access, they could only search certain areas. Upon filing a formal report on Sunday, the FGE arrived at Prime Wheel on Monday at 11:00 a.m. to begin their investigation, interviewing the 10 co-workers who were on the same shift as Salazar Cano.

“We will be entering with the FGE, family members, and employees to conduct a more thorough search of the company,” added Ángel Salazar.

Wendy Cano, Salazar’s wife, mentioned: “They are not conducting the search under a warrant; the company is allowing us to search voluntarily. We found no new leads on the cameras, but the FGE will also be examining additional camera footage.”

The family asked demonstrators to allow personnel access so they could start the search, which began around 5:30 p.m. Ana, the wife of a Prime Wheel worker, expressed safety concerns, explaining her husband works in the material melting area where accidents are frequent. Gerardo Díaz, a member of Casa Obrera, recalled a previous demonstration on May 2, demanding better safety measures due to recurring accidents involving chemical burns.

Authorities request public assistance for any information on Salazar Cano’s whereabouts. Information can be provided through the numbers (664) 683-9643, 911, or the anonymous tip line 089.
