San Ysidro Border Times Fixed

“San Ysidro-Tijuana pedestrian border crossing times now regularized, easing daily commute for US workers and visitors, with enhanced security measures in place for smoother crossings.”

### Crossing Times at San Ysidro Border to Tijuana Now Regularized

The waiting times for entering Tijuana through the San Ysidro pedestrian crossing have been normalized, according to Kurt Honold Morales, Secretary of Economy and Innovation of Baja California. During a meeting with Jorge Alejandro Palau Hernández, the acting head of the National Migration Institute (INM), they discussed border dynamics and ensured that any measures taken would not adversely affect regular crossers.

“Sometimes people from other parts of the country don’t understand that we have a unique border dynamic with significant daily crossings. We try to make them aware that Tijuana is different from other borders, and they need to be sensitive to how we live here,” Honold Morales noted.

Most of the crossers are people who work in the United States and live in Tijuana, commuting daily. These individuals were the main ones affected by the delays, as well as those traveling to Tijuana for medical care or to visit family.

To improve crossing efficiency, the Secretary of Governance requested the INM to optimize and expedite logistics, even adding more lines for pedestrian crossings into Tijuana.

In addition, awareness campaigns will be launched to inform foreigners about the fee charged for staying more than seven days in Mexico. According to official information from the INM, this fee for visitors without permission for remunerated activities costs 717 pesos. The Migration Law, specifically Article 34, outlines the obligations of foreigners entering the national territory.

In recent news, travelers crossing from San Ysidro to Tijuana faced new security checks, causing initial disruptions. However, recent measures and additional lanes have been introduced to streamline the process, as confirmed by local authorities.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that the characterization and shifting leadership within the INM, particularly with Jorge Alejandro Palau Hernández’s recent appointment, have concerned activists focused on migrant welfare. The community hopes for a balanced approach to security and humane considerations.

There have also been instances of extended waiting times at the border, as reported during peak travel periods. Authorities are continually seeking methods to reduce these delays to facilitate smoother and efficient crossings.
