The jury, comprising playwright and poet Carmen Boullosa, writer and editor Gabriela Jauregui, and poet and educator Yendi Ramos, awarded the prize to Rosina Conde for “the fidelity of her work with a unique aesthetic pursuit, as well as the honesty of her personal artistic project that spans a broad spectrum of genres.”

Conde expressed her initial motivations for writing, stating, “I wrote for my friends without any intention of gaining international recognition. However, the unique treatment, language, and border spaces in my work catapulted me to the international stage, leading to academic study first in the United States and then in Mexico.”

Karen Villeda, the National Coordinator of Literature, commended Conde through a video message during the ceremony, highlighting her diverse contributions to Mexican literature: “She is a multidisciplinary artist whose diverse creativity and innovative proposals have enriched literature and art from her perspective as a vibrant Mexican woman from the north.”

Ernestina Yépiz hoped that the award would encourage Conde to continue sharing her literary discourse with them, while Juan Salvador Avilés Ochoa, speaking on behalf of Sinaloa’s governor Rubén Rocha Moya, emphasized Conde’s inspiring legacy for new generations of writers.

The Inés Arredondo Fine Arts Literature Award, established in 2018, is presented by the Mexican Government’s Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), in collaboration with the Sinaloa State Government through ISIC.
