Rosarito’s Desalination Plant Confirmed: Transforming Water Supply and Boosting Tourism
Rosarito will soon witness the construction of its own desalination plant, as confirmed by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum in a recent announcement. This major project is part of the National Water Plan and requires an investment of approximately 12 billion pesos (around $648 million USD). “We are committed to making the desalination plant in Baja California a tangible reality,” Sheinbaum assured.
The news was met with enthusiasm by Rosarito’s Mayor RocÃo Adame, who expressed the significance of the development on social media, stating, “The desalination plant is on its way! It will play a crucial role in enhancing the water supply for South Rosarito and safeguarding our pristine beaches.”
Charting a Sustainable Path for Rosarito
The proposed plant is designated as a Greenfield project with the capability to produce 2,200 liters per second, which will ensure a steady and reliable water supply for the area. According to recent information from Proyectos México, the plan has been reviewed as of March 12, 2025, with the support of Banobras and Fonadin.
In addition to bolstering water infrastructure, Rosarito is prioritizing its tourism and sustainability efforts. The Mayor’s office is actively pursuing National Tourism Quality Certification, which affirms high standards and environmental stewardship for tourist destinations across the nation.
“This accreditation is a comprehensive acknowledgment of quality and sustainable practices in tourism,” explained Paul Corona RodrÃguez, president of COTUCO Rosarito. With substantial infrastructure developments and a commitment to eco-conscious tourism, Rosarito is poised to emerge as a leader in regional development.
