### Rosarito’s Desalination Plant Confirmed: A Transformative Project for Water Supply and Tourism

In a significant development for the coastal city of Rosarito, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed the construction of a new desalination plant. Announced during her recent morning press conference, this endeavor is part of the National Water Plan and is set to proceed with an investment of approximately 12 billion pesos ($648 million USD).

President Sheinbaum stated, “We are committed to making the desalination plant in Baja California a reality.” This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from local officials, including Rosarito’s Mayor RocĂo Adame. “The desalination plant is happening! This project will be crucial for improving water supply in South Rosarito and protecting our beaches,” she shared on social media.

#### Ensuring a Sustainable Future

Classified as a Greenfield project, the plant will have the capacity to produce 2,200 liters of water per second, ensuring a sustainable supply of water for the region. According to Proyectos México, the project has secured backing from Banobras and Fonadin, with the latest review conducted on March 12, 2025.

Aside from water infrastructure, Rosarito is also pushing forward in the realms of tourism and sustainability. The city’s administration, led by Mayor Adame, is actively working toward achieving the National Tourism Quality Certification.
