Rosarito, a vibrant coastal city in Baja California, is celebrating a transformative development as Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has confirmed the construction of a new desalination plant. This ambitious project is part of the National Water Plan, requiring a significant investment of approximately 12 billion pesos (around $648 million USD). “This will become a reality,” President Sheinbaum promised during a recent press conference, ensuring better water management for the region.

Mayor Rocío Adame enthusiastically expressed her support for the initiative on social media, stating, “The desalination plant is happening! This project will be crucial to enhancing water supply in South Rosarito and safeguarding our beaches.”

This Greenfield plant seeks to secure a sustainable water supply for Rosarito with a production capacity of 2,200 liters per second. The project has garnered backing from prominent financial institutions including Banobras and Fonadin.

In addition to addressing water infrastructure, Rosarito is advancing in tourism and sustainability. The local administration, led by Mayor Adame, is pursuing National Tourism Quality Certification to ensure the destination maintains high standards of quality and environmental management. Paul Corona Rodríguez, president of COTUCO Rosarito, highlighted that the certification represents comprehensive recognition of quality and sustainable tourism practices.

With notable infrastructure advancements and a focus on eco-friendly tourism, Rosarito is poised to emerge as a leading figure in regional development.
