On September 8th, the fourth serial event of the Red Cross will take place in Rosarito, featuring a 5K and 10K run as well as a 3K walk. Mirna Montes Suárez, the state coordinator of Resource Mobilization for the organization, announced at a press conference that the event is occurring nationwide. This year, Rosarito was chosen due to its favorable weather and the positive reception from last year’s event, which encouraged participation.

Montes Suárez explained that the first three editions of the event were held in Tijuana before the pandemic. These earlier events saw up to 700 participants. The activity resumed in 2023, with about 400 participants.

The start and finish points will be at Quintas del Mar, featuring a family walk of 3 kilometers and a 5K and 10K run. The event will include medals, trophies, and commemorative items. “The goal is to engage the community with the institution, and it is not a fundraising event. The funds collected cover the costs of the event, while promoting humanitarian work, healthy living, family bonding, and health habits,” Montes Suárez stated.

Participation fees are 250 pesos for the 3K walk and 300 pesos for the 5K and 10K runs. These fees include a commemorative t-shirt and a participation number. Registrations can be made at the Red Cross facilities in Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito.

“The 10K race will cover Benito Juárez Boulevard, with the final kilometers on Popotla Boulevard, and all the races will include a stretch of about 1.5 to 2 kilometers along the beach,” Montes Suárez added.

**Additional Information**

In related news, the event’s emphasis on fostering community and promoting healthy lifestyles draws attention amid an increased focus on mental health and well-being post-pandemic. Local authorities have praised the initiative for its inclusive nature and the community spirit it nurtures.

Furthermore, similar events are also gaining popularity across the border. For example, in San Diego, a marathon held in conjunction with local charities saw participation triple over the past year, highlighting a growing trend of community engagement through physical activities.

The significance of such events extends beyond mere physical health. Reports indicate they play a crucial role in enhancing mental well-being, offering social interaction and a sense of purpose, which are vital in today’s fast-paced world.
