Four officers from the State Police have been temporarily suspended in Rosarito after two formal complaints were lodged following their new oversight of local security beginning on March 7th. Laureano Carrillo RodrÃguez, the Baja California Secretary of Citizen Security, reported that one complaint was filed with the State Attorney General’s Office and the other with the security department’s Internal Control Body.
“We are currently investigating these complaints against the state police,” stated Carrillo RodrÃguez. He also addressed circulating social media allegations, noting that they are under review, but no additional formal reports have emerged.
Status of Officers and Investigation Updates
Carrillo RodrÃguez clarified that the officers have been reassigned for safety precautions while the investigation is underway. “No evidence has been presented that directly ties the officers to the accusations, but they will remain relocated during the inquiry,” he explained.
The State Police assumed control of Rosarito’s security operations on March 7th, replacing 264 municipal officers who are presently undergoing rigorous evaluations, including psychological tests, medical exams, toxicology screenings, background checks, and polygraph assessments. Additionally, their firearms are being meticulously inspected for accurate serial numbers and codes.
Accountability within security forces is a rarity, but sometimes justice prevails unexpectedly. This development may mark the beginning of a necessary overhaul within Rosarito’s law enforcement.
