**Four State Police Officers Temporarily Removed in Rosarito Following Complaints**
Four officers from the State Police have been temporarily relocated from their positions in Rosarito after two formal complaints emerged. This comes after the state police assumed control of local security operations on March 7th. According to the Secretary of Citizen Security for Baja California, Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, one complaint has been filed with the State Attorney General’s Office, while another has been directed to the security department’s Internal Control Body.
“We’ve received a couple of formal complaints regarding the actions of state police officers. At this time, we are actively investigating these claims,” noted Carrillo Rodríguez.
Additionally, he addressed rumors circulating on social media, confirming that although they are being reviewed, no other formal complaints have been lodged.
**Officers Reassigned During Investigation**
Carrillo Rodríguez clarified that the four officers have not been proven guilty yet but have been reassigned as a precaution during the investigation conducted by the Internal Control Body.
“There is no substantial evidence implicating the officers at this time, but they have been temporarily relocated for safety reasons during the investigation,” he explained.
Since March 7th, the State Police have been managing security duties in Rosarito, replacing the local force of 264 municipal officers. These municipal officers are currently undergoing comprehensive evaluations, including psychological, medical, toxicology tests, along with thorough background and polygraph checks. Additionally, their firearms are being scrutinized for serial numbers and codes.
While it is unusual for such accountability to take place, it reflects a step towards transparency and reforming the security environment in Rosarito. This move may mark the onset of a needed overhaul of security forces in the area.
