Four officers from the State Police have been temporarily suspended from their duties in Rosarito due to two formal complaints filed since the state police assumed control over local security on March 7th. According to Laureano Carrillo RodrÃguez, the Secretary of Citizen Security for Baja California, one complaint was registered with the State Attorney General’s Office, while the other was directed to the Internal Control Body of the security department.
“We are currently handling two formal grievances concerning the state police, and investigations are underway,” stated Carrillo RodrÃguez. He also acknowledged that there have been social media allegations, which are being looked into, although no further formal complaints have been lodged.
**Officers Reassignment and Investigation**
Carrillo RodrÃguez clarified that the officers in question have been reassigned for their safety as the Internal Control Body continues its investigation. “There is presently no evidence linking them directly to the allegations, but they have been relocated as a precaution,” he explained.
Since taking over on March 7th, the State Police have overseen Rosarito security, replacing the 264 municipal officers currently undergoing an all-encompassing vetting process. This includes psychological, medical, and toxicology assessments, besides social background checks and polygraph exams. Even their firearms are being scrutinized for serial numbers and codes.
The move to hold officers accountable is a refreshing change and might be the first step towards a significant clean-up within Rosarito’s security forces.
