Four State Police Officers Removed in Rosarito Amid Complaints
In Rosarito, four officers from the State Police have been temporarily removed from their roles following two formal complaints since they assumed responsibility for local security on March 7th. According to Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, the Secretary of Citizen Security for Baja California, one complaint was lodged with the State Attorney General’s Office, while the other was sent to the Internal Control Body of the security department.
Carrillo Rodríguez stated, “We’ve had individuals come forward with concerns about the state police. Currently, there are two formal cases under investigation.” He also mentioned that allegations on social media are being investigated, despite no additional official reports being filed.
The officers have been reassigned in the meantime to ensure a safe investigation by the Internal Control Body. Carrillo Rodríguez clarified, “There is no evidence linking them to the accusations, but they have been reassigned while we investigate.”
Since taking over security on March 7th, the State Police have replaced 264 municipal officers who are now undergoing various assessments, including psychological and medical evaluations, toxicology tests, social background checks, and polygraph exams. Their firearms are also being inspected for serial numbers and codes.
While accountability in law enforcement is rare, this situation suggests a possible reform in Rosarito’s security forces.
