In a recent development in Rosarito, four state police officers have been temporarily removed from their duties following complaints lodged since the state police assumed charge of local security on March 7th. The complaints have drawn attention to the conduct of the authorities in the region.

The Secretary of Citizen Security for Baja California, Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, confirmed that one of the complaints has been filed with the State Attorney General’s Office, while the other was submitted to the Internal Control Body of the security department. “We’ve received complaints about the state police, and two formal cases are currently under investigation,” Carrillo Rodríguez stated.

Amidst various allegations surfacing on social media platforms, Carrillo Rodríguez assured the public that those claims are being reviewed, although no formal reports have been filed beyond the initial two complaints.

Regarding the current status of the officers involved, Carrillo Rodríguez clarified that the officers have been reassigned for safety precautions while the investigation by the Internal Control Body is ongoing. “There is no evidence yet linking them to the allegations, but the officers have been reassigned during the investigation,” he explained.

Since the transition of power to the State Police, the 264 municipal officers have been undergoing an extensive vetting process which includes psychological, medical, and toxicology examinations, as well as background and polygraph tests. Additionally, their firearms are being inspected for serial numbers and codes.

This situation marks an important step towards accountability within Rosarito’s security forces, suggesting the potential for significant reform in local law enforcement practices.
