Excitement is building in Rosarito as “Playa El Bebé” gears up to host the first round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. Organizers anticipate a strong turnout from fishing enthusiasts, with last year’s event drawing nearly 150 anglers from across the state as well as Southern California.

This tournament forms a vital part of the official calendar of the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association, supported by the local government, and organized in conjunction with the TJ Fishing Club’s Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno.

The event marks the first of three selective tournaments that will qualify participants for the State Championship. Festivities kick off at 5:00 AM with participant registration, with lines cast at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in window closes at 1:00 PM, ensuring anyone in line by that time can still compete.

Participants will vie for prizes across various categories, including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other species. Additionally, the event will feature raffles and delicious food made from local catch.

Interested participants can find more details about registration, costs, rules, and prizes by contacting 664-493-6014 or 664-339-9173, or by emailing tjfishingclub@gmail.com. More information is also available on the club’s website. The head of Sport Fishing at SEPESCA BC, Victor Hugo MĂ©ndez, has provided financial support for the event to ensure its success.

Participants can register in advance at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria. This is just the beginning, with subsequent rounds taking place on April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada and July 20th at Playa El PabellĂłn in San QuintĂn. The top anglers will represent Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Jalisco this September.
