Exciting Times Ahead: Rosarito’s “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament Set for March 30th

Rosarito’s scenic Playa El Bebé is all set to host the inaugural round of Baja California’s state fishing competition on Sunday, March 30th. This annual event is highly anticipated to draw numerous anglers from the region, as last year’s tournament saw nearly 150 participants from both Baja California and Southern California.

Organized under the official calendar of SEPESCA BC and supported by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda’s administration, the tournament is meticulously arranged by the Baja California Fishing Clubs Association. This year, the event is being spearheaded by the TJ Fishing Club with leading representatives Nemesio Salazar Vázquez and Omar Reyes Moreno at the helm.

This marks the first in a series of three competitive beach fishing tournaments, where participants will vie for a spot in the State Championship. Activities kick off at 5:00 AM with registration, while the catch line releases at 7:00 AM, continuing until the weigh-in closure at 1:00 PM. Participants in line by the deadline will still have their catches counted.

Categories including children’s, women’s, mojarra, and other fish species will see prizes awarded at the day’s end. Attendees can also enjoy raffles and meals featuring fresh, locally caught fish.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to learn more about registration details, costs, and rules. Contact can be made via phone at 664 493 6014 or 664 339 9173, or through email at tjfishingclub@gmail.com. Additional information is available on their website.

SEPESCA BC’s Sport Fishing head, Victor Hugo Méndez, has shown support by providing financial aid to help with event expenses. Prospective competitors can register on the day, or opt for early registration at Pesca del Mar Outdoors in Ensenada or Fishing Crew Store in La Gloria.

Looking ahead, the competitive spirit continues with subsequent rounds scheduled for April 27th at Sunset Beach in Ensenada, hosted by Club Pura Vida, and July 20th at Playa El Pabellón in San Quintín, organized by Pioleros del Valle de San Quintín. Top performers will earn the honor of representing Baja California at the VI National Beach Sport Fishing Championship in Playa Manzanilla, Jalisco, on September 19-20.
