**Rosarito’s Upcoming Desalination Plant: Transforming Water Access and Boosting Tourism**

Rosarito is on the brink of a major development with the confirmation of its own desalination plant, announced by Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum. As part of the National Water Plan, this significant infrastructure project will receive an investment of 12 billion pesos ($648 million USD). “We are committed to making the desalination plant in Baja California a reality,” Sheinbaum affirmed during a recent morning briefing.

Rosarito’s Mayor, Rocío Adame, quickly celebrated the announcement, expressing on social media that, “The desalination plant is happening! This project is crucial for enhancing water supply in South Rosarito and safeguarding our beaches.”

**Towards a Sustainable Future**

The desalination project is classified as a Greenfield initiative, poised to produce 2,200 liters per second. This will guarantee a sustainable water supply for Rosarito and its surrounding areas. Backed by financial institutions Banobras and Fonadin, the latest update was reviewed in mid-March 2025.

In addition to water infrastructure improvements, Rosarito is positioning itself as a key player in tourism and sustainability. Mayor Adame’s administration is working diligently toward obtaining the National Tourism Quality Certification. This certification would ensure high standards and environmental responsibility across tourist destinations in Mexico.

“This certification recognizes quality and sustainability in tourism,” explained Paul Corona Rodríguez, president of COTUCO Rosarito. With substantial infrastructure investments and a keen focus on eco-friendly tourism, Rosarito is set to emerge as a national leader in regional development.

**Additional Developments in Rosarito**

In other news, President Sheinbaum has initiated a housing program in Playas de Rosarito, aimed at boosting community development and providing affordable housing options for residents. Additionally, Rosarito is gearing up for the 2025 Tianguis Turístico, which is expected to further enhance its tourism appeal.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the upcoming “El Bebé” Fishing Tournament, scheduled for March 30th. This popular event draws fishing enthusiasts from near and far, adding to Rosarito’s growing reputation as a top destination for recreational activities.

With such dynamic advancements, Rosarito continues to progress as a prominent and sustainable hub, enhancing both its local community and tourism prospects.
