In a recent development concerning public security in Rosarito, four officers from the State Police have been temporarily suspended following two formal complaints since the state police assumed control of local security efforts on March 7th. The Baja California Secretary of Citizen Security, Laureano Carrillo RodrÃguez, disclosed that these complaints were filed with the State Attorney General’s Office and the Internal Control Body of the security department.
Carrillo RodrÃguez mentioned that multiple individuals have lodged complaints against the state police. “We are currently investigating two formal reports,” he stated. Despite rumors circulating on social media, he confirmed that no additional formal complaints have been filed.
While the officers in question have yet to be linked to any allegations, they have been reassigned as a precautionary measure while investigations proceed. Carrillo RodrÃguez emphasized, “There is no concrete evidence against them, but they have been relocated for safety reasons during the investigation.”
The transition of security responsibilities to the State Police involved replacing 264 municipal officers, who are now undergoing a rigorous vetting process. This includes psychological, medical, and toxicology tests, alongside social background checks and polygraph exams. Their firearms are also being inspected for proper serial numbers and codes.
This decision to hold officers accountable signifies a turning point in Rosarito’s approach to public security, potentially sparking a long-overdue overhaul in local policing standards.
