In recent developments from Rosarito, four officers from the State Police have been temporarily reassigned after two formal complaints were filed since they assumed responsibility for local security on March 7th. This change came in the wake of the State Police taking over from the municipal police who are currently undergoing comprehensive background checks and evaluations.

According to Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, the Secretary of Citizen Security in Baja California, one complaint has been lodged with the State Attorney General’s Office, while the other was presented to the Internal Control Body of the security department. Carrillo Rodríguez reported, “We’ve received complaints against state police officers. To date, we have two formal cases under investigation.”

In addition to these formal complaints, there have been allegations circulating on social media platforms. Carrillo Rodríguez noted that these claims are being examined; however, there have been no further formal reports submitted.

Carrillo Rodríguez explained that, as a precautionary measure, the officers have been transferred, emphasizing that this reallocation is for safety reasons and not indicative of guilt. “There is no concrete evidence against these officers yet, but it’s a measure we’ve taken during the investigation process,” he stated.

Since the overhaul of local security management on March 7th, the State Police have undertaken significant measures to enhance security in Rosarito. The 264 previous municipal officers are currently undergoing various tests and evaluations, including psychological and medical assessments, as well as checks of their firearms for serial numbers and possible discrepancies.

This case marks a significant step toward accountability in Rosarito’s security forces. Residents hope this is just the beginning of a broader initiative to clean up and enhance the integrity of local security operations.
