The newly elected President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has officially named Rommel Pacheco Marrufo as the new Director General of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (Conade). Pacheco represented Mexico in the Olympic Games held in Athens (2004), Beijing (2008), Rio de Janeiro (2016), and Tokyo (2020). Notably, he served as the national flag bearer along with golfer Gabriela López during the Tokyo 2020 opening ceremony.

A member of the National Regeneration Movement, Pacheco also served as a federal deputy for Yucatán’s 3rd district in the LXV Legislature of the Congress of the Union from 2021 to 2024. In the 2024 Yucatán state elections, he ran as the Morena party candidate for the mayor of Mérida, ultimately finishing in second place.

Pacheco holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Human Capital from Anáhuac University in the South. Additionally, he spent 11 years in the Mexican Army, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. As a member of the Mexican Armed Forces, he participated in emergency response efforts in Yucatán through the DN-III Plan in times of natural disasters.
