**Over 10,000 Stolen U.S. Vehicles Recovered in Mexico**

In a significant effort to combat vehicle theft, the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana has successfully located and reclaimed over 10,000 transport units, including luxury cars and even a private jet, stolen from the United States and found on Mexican soil. This impressive recovery operation has been made possible through a collaboration between the U.S. Consulate’s Vehicle Recovery Unit and Mexican investigative authorities. The unit, established in 2015, has issued 13,000 consular letters to return the recovered vehicles to their rightful owners.

William Swaney, head of the consular section, stated that Tijuana’s consulate features unique services such as immigrant visa processing, special consular services for U.S. citizens, and fraud prevention. The Vehicle Recovery Unit operates exclusively in Tijuana, making it unparalleled in its mission.

Notably, luxury automobiles such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris, as well as electric scooters and bicycles often associated with San Diego-based companies, are among the most commonly recovered items illegally moved across the border. Measures are being devised in collaboration with scooter rental companies operating in California to prevent these vehicles from crossing into Mexico illicitly.

Additionally, U.S. citizens who fall victim to vehicle theft while in Mexico are advised to report the incident immediately to local authorities and submit a theft report to 911.

**Secondary Article: Increase in Cross-Border Vehicle Theft Continues to Challenge Authorities**

The issue of cross-border vehicle theft between the U.S. and Mexico remains a significant challenge. Despite the successes of recovery efforts, incidents continue to rise, exacerbated by the ease of transporting stolen vehicles across poorly guarded border areas.

Authorities from both nations are working tirelessly to enhance security measures and improve tracking technologies, aiming to create a more robust partnership for tackling this persistent problem. The increasing use of GPS tracking devices and improved border surveillance technology are some of the proactive steps being taken.

Furthermore, awareness campaigns are being put in place to inform U.S. residents about the importance of securing their vehicles and the immediate steps to take if they fall victim to theft. Cross-border vehicle theft is a crime that not only disrupts personal lives but also benefits organized crime networks operating in the region.

The collaboration between American and Mexican authorities is vital to develop an effective strategy to lessen these incidents, protect prominent targets like high-end vehicles, and return stolen properties to their legitimate owners. As both countries continue to refine their approach to this transnational crime, the hope is that these collaborative efforts will lead to a significant reduction in such thefts.
