**Employee Dies in Workplace Accident at Prime Wheel Facility**
A tragic incident occurred at the Prime Wheel facility in Otay, where an employee, identified as Eduardo Ortiz Franco, lost his life after being caught in a machine. The accident happened in the early hours of October 22. Security reports indicate that the incident took place around 12:15 a.m. on Calle Exportadores in the Colonia Ejido Chilpancingo, part of the Otay Centenario area.
When the municipal police arrived, they confirmed that a male employee had been trapped. The individual had already been removed from the machinery by the time the paramedics from Cruz Roja arrived and was pronounced dead on the scene. According to Tijuana’s Fire Department, the victim was approximately 30 years old.
This incident casts a shadow over the facility’s safety record, especially following labor protests earlier in the year. On May 2, workers at Prime Wheel had demonstrated, citing inadequate safety measures and insufficient protective equipment for handling machines and toxic materials, alongside concerns over wages.
Additionally, since August 26, the factory had been a key search location for missing worker Servando Salazar Cano, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The investigation into his disappearance has already led to the arrest of three employees: Moisés N, an engineer; José Alfredo N, the general supervisor; and Magdiel N, in charge of the ovens, on suspicion of forced disappearance.
**Secondary Update: Concerns Rise Over Workplace Safety in Tijuana**
In the wake of the tragic incident at Prime Wheel, discussions about workplace safety protocols have taken center stage in Tijuana. Local authorities have expressed concerns over the lack of stringent safety measures across various industries within the region. This accident has amplified calls for industries to reassess and enhance their safety protocols to ensure employee well-being.
Additionally, the issue of missing worker Servando Salazar Cano ties into broader labor tensions within the company. The fact that three employees have been apprehended as suspects in his disappearance adds to the unease among the workforce. Local unions have reiterated the need for proper investigations and transparency to prevent further incidents and build a safer working environment.
