In a significant development, more than 200 inspectors, investigators, and legal professionals conducted a thorough examination of Prime Wheel’s second facility in Tijuana following the tragic accidental death of a 31-year-old worker, Eduardo Ortiz Franco, early Tuesday morning.

The manufacturing company, known for producing automobile wheels, was the center of attention as personnel from the Tijuana City Hall, the State Labor Department, and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived to probe the incident. Approximately 30 municipal inspectors were left outside the premises for over two hours, awaiting directives and the conclusions of Government Secretary Arnulfo Guerrero and Labor Secretary Alejandro Arregui.

“The Attorney General’s office is handling their responsibilities, and we are maintaining close coordination to ensure we do not compromise the area where this unfortunate accident occurred. Our inspection will focus on administrative procedures while ensuring the safety of workers,” stated Secretary Arregui.

“We plan to conduct inspection and review procedures, and based on these, we will prepare a report to verify whether the company possesses the necessary permits to operate,” Secretary Guerrero detailed.

Since 10 a.m. on Tuesday, access to the plant was blocked. Work at Plant 2 was suspended, while employees at the company’s other two plants awaited further instructions from the Baja California Labor Department.

“We will decide whether to implement a partial or full suspension, and we will provide more details afterward. The governor and the mayor, Ismael Burgueño, have instructed us to guarantee the rights of all workers, including the more than 5,000 employees who must receive their salaries regardless of any decisions made,” emphasized Secretary Arregui.
