### Support Children Battling Cancer at Tijuana General Hospital

Tijuana, September 4, 2024 – This Friday, September 6, marks the “Pizzatón” event where seven pizzerias in Tijuana will come together to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Support Fund at the Tijuana General Hospital (TGH). Proceeds will help maintain a recovery house for children undergoing cancer treatment, providing them with necessary accommodations, medication, and hospital supplies.

Carolina Reyes de la Parra, Director General of the TGH Support Fund, detailed that the recovery house offers 16 double rooms where children and their guardians receive lodging, meals, laundry services, and transportation to the hospital. Currently, eight rooms are occupied, and three children from areas such as Ensenada and San Quintín are staying at the facility.

“While children are undergoing active treatment, they can stay here as long as needed,” Reyes de la Parra stated. “Even during the five-year post-treatment surveillance stage, we welcome those from remote areas.”

Dr. Mario Alberto Ornelas, Chief of Pediatric Oncology at TGH, reported that 49 children are currently in active treatment, while 350 are in remission. The most common cancers affecting children at TGH include leukemia, brain tumors, and lymphoma.

To cover the annual operational costs of 10 to 12 million pesos, various fundraising events like the “Pizzatón” are organized. Each participating pizzeria has selected a specific pizza, with all sales proceeds going entirely to the TGH Support Fund. The participating pizzerias and their chosen dishes are:

– Hornero Restaurante: Pepperoni Pizza
– Hornero Express (Cacho, Hipódromo, Otay): Cheese Pizza
– Mama Mía (Cacho, Las Huertas, Otay): Chicago Style Pizza
– Gou Gou Pizza (All locations): Pizza Bites
– Pizza Cinema (Otay and Agua Caliente): Pepperoni Pizza
– Tony’s Pizza: Medium Pepperoni Pizza
– Domino’s Pizza (Cacho and Paseo Tijuana): Medium Pepperoni Pizza

**Secondary Article: Increasing Pediatric Cancer Cases in Tijuana**

Recent reports indicate a rise in pediatric cancer cases in Tijuana. The Tijuana General Hospital has noted an alarming increase in the number of children diagnosed with invasive cancer types, urging the importance of early detection and extended treatment facilities.

Mario Alberto Ornelas emphasizes that many pediatric cancer cases are detected at advanced stages due to the lack of early screening tests. The hospital continues its efforts to provide comprehensive care and support for both patients and their families.

### Sports and Community Support Events

In addition to the “Pizzatón,” Tijuana will also host a golf tournament benefiting children with heart conditions. These events contribute significantly to the ongoing medical and emotional support required by young patients.
