Pilares Graduates Forge Ahead

Amidst celebrations, Pilares graduates mark a transformative journey towards higher education at University Rosario Castellanos, shaping a promising future in Tijuana’s educational landscape.

### Graduation at Pilares: A New Chapter for Aspiring University Students

A momentous event unfolded at the DIF center in Infonavit Latinos, Tijuana, as the first cohort of the Pilares program celebrated their graduation. This pioneering group of 87 students will have the opportunity to enroll directly in the University Rosario Castellanos, currently under construction on the former site of the old Ciudad Judicial on boulevard 2000 in the eastern city zone. The new university, expected to be operational within the first quarter of 2025, was announced by Claudia Sheinbaum in early October.

Since May, students have participated in a mix of in-person and digital classes, receiving guidance and evaluations every two weeks. This approach helps them to officially certify their high school education, a stepping stone towards further university studies if they choose to pursue them.

Miguel Landa, a proud graduate at 75, expressed his gratitude and joy for this opportunity. “As a child, I dreamed of education and having a profession, but life circumstances held me back. Today, thanks to the Pilares programs, my dreams are within reach,” he shared with emotion.

Approximately two thousand students annually engage with Baja California’s open high school scheme. Pilares plans to maintain collaboration with state DIF centers to encourage more individuals to complete their secondary education in an accelerated semester.

“The education we fought for over a century ago continues to change lives today. As we celebrate the right to education, we’ll ensure no graduate gets left behind,” declared Luis Gilberto Gallegos, Baja California’s Secretary of Education.
