Nurses Protest for Fair Wages

Former hospital nurses demand fair wages and job security after unjust dismissals. Lack of documentation and unfulfilled promises fuel protests for employment stability amidst uncertainty in the healthcare sector.

Former Employees Protest After Being Laid Off: Demand Fair Wages and Job Security

A group of former nurses from the General Hospital of Tijuana gathered outside the hospital to protest what they describe as unjust dismissals. Gabriela Orduño, who had been working as a nurse at the hospital for over four and a half years, revealed that she received her dismissal notice via WhatsApp. The lack of formal documentation to confirm their termination is a major concern among these ex-employees.

Orduño expressed her frustration, noting that she had not received any benefits during her tenure, with a bi-weekly salary of just five thousand pesos. The promise of permanent positions through the IMSS Bienestar program remained unfulfilled. “I joined during the pandemic and am still waiting for a base position for a secure salary and benefits, which we have not received, not even social security,” she stated.

Martha Gutiérrez García, another former nurse, highlighted similar issues. The dismissals impacted many temporary workers, some of whom have been serving since the onset of the pandemic. Despite assurances of permanent positions that were supposedly provided to newer employees, these promises were not honored for those like García. “We want answers. We deserve the stability we were promised,” she remarked.

Additional Developments: Healthcare Workers Seek Employment Stability amid Uncertainty**

In further developments surrounding labor conditions within healthcare institutions, similar protests have surfaced in various regions. The demand for secure employment and fair compensation has become a pressing issue for healthcare workers who have faced increased workload and stress, especially during the pandemic.

Recent protests have also called attention to the need for better integration of temporary healthcare workers into full-time positions. This comes following announcements from healthcare officials about potential resource constraints. Many workers remain uncertain about their job security, highlighting the essential role these professionals play in times of health crises.

In neighboring areas, healthcare staff continue to face challenges, with calls for local authorities to address the disparities in employment practices. As similar issues resonate across the healthcare sector, the call for reforms promises to remain a focal point for upcoming labor negotiations.

The situation underscores the immense challenges faced by healthcare workers globally and the urgent need for comprehensive policy changes to ensure fair treatment and adequate support for these frontline heroes.
